| Neither of us had been to Messina before, though I had sailed through the Staits of Messina in 1965 when travelling aboard the M.V. Fairsea on the way to Naples. It proved to be an interesting place and quite noisy on "the hour" when the bell tower, puppets and scenery came alive, accompanied by an extremely loud loudspeaker rendition of Ave Maria! | ||
